Forest Park Trail Maintenance Party - Newton Road
Please come out and represent PUMP and our Mountain Bike Community during the Forest Park Conservancy's "Forest Park Day of Stewardship" Forest Park maintenance day.
Event: Newton Road Trail (Build) Party
Date: Saturday, September 20th, 2008
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 PM
Meet Location:
Road Parking near Rail Road Tracks on NW Marina Way off Hwy 30 marked as "A" on the map below. We will be walking to the Newton Road trailhead from there (marked as "B" on the same map).
Please click Map: http://tinyurl.com/5mq5ym
Directions: From Portland drive out Highway 30 and make a right on NW Marina Way. *Marina Way is on the North side of the St John's Bridge* Cross rail road tracks and park where ever you are able on the shoulder. Jeff Hough's Forest Park Conservancy vehicle will be in the pole position and will be the meet point.
Newton Road is directly across Hwy 30 from the meet point (though not marked on the map), but has no parking area. For that reason, we will be parking on NW Marina and walking over to Newton after sign in and orientation.
PUMP's efforts will be focused on the upper portion of Newton Road above the wash-out where our work ended in February. There is gravel to be removed from the corners, banking to be done, drainage to be improved and some fun new reroutes to make the trail more interesting. A trail is never as fun to ride as it is when you're riding on what you've helped build!!
Initially we will be working with PUMP and other concerned mountain bikers and cyclists on our dedicated portion of the park. After the trail party The Conservancy will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Party for all of those who participated. This will be an important event to attend if you are able as it will allow us to rub elbows and interface with other users of the park and really show them who we are and how much we contribute to the health and wellbeing of the park for all users (all of the trails we work on are multi-use trails, so our work benefits everyone).
Please register at:

and on this posting so we can get our names directly to The Conservancy (for their planning purposes) and so that I can keep communication open with PUMPsters volunteering as well. Please note that you are a PUMP member in the comments section of The Conservancy's registration form.
