Buck Creek Trail / Cougar

It was reported to me that this past weekend that a fellow rider (Joni) was riding along the lower portion of Buck Creek (along the creek) and saw a cougar and two cubs on the trail. She was lucky to see it from a distance. It hissed at her but didn’t make any advance. She put her bike over her head and walked down one of the nearby cutoffs to the road…That would be enough to get your heart racing!

This could happen anywhere and this is a reminder to be aware of your surroundings.

there is a healthy cougar

there is a healthy cougar population here, but luckily there has been zero reported cougar attacks in oregon, and only 8 in washington.  overall there has been 117 cougar attacks in the last 100+ years and 17 deaths.  Not to say it can't happen though!  personally i would have been a bit scared/startled to see the cat but I also would have been super excited to have seen the big cat in the wild!
