Owl sightings??? Scappoose / Rocky Point Rd. Trails

About 3-4 weeks ago, my brother and I were riding the Rocky Point Rd. trails, and we were checking out the "freeride structures".

While we were observing the gap jump, after the right hand berm...

I happen to look to the right, & at the base of this large tree, there were two owls.  They were white or very lt. grey, and they were just standing on the ground, almost cuddled up together... But both of them starring wide-eyed back at us.

Is this a common occurance around there?  Has anyone else spotted these owls?

It just seemed really odd to me... First off, they were on the ground (although the tree was kind of hollowed out at the bottom, and they were in that)

And second, it was the middle of the day.... Shouldn't they be asleep UP in a tree somewhere?

Anyway, just thought I would share this unusual experience w/ everyone, and am curious if anyone else has spotted them?

perhaps a snowy owl, or a

perhaps a snowy owl, or a burrowing owl?  how big were they?

How Big??

Although we tried to keep our distance, as we were about 10ft.  or less when I looked over and spotted them. (no pun intended)  I would say they were approx. 10" tall.. maybe 12"...

They appeared to be starring at us, but with very little movement.  And definately huddled together.  Very cool sighting!
