Wilson River Trail Conditions

Trail report May 11 2008 - Wilson River Elk Creek to Wilson Falls

The trail was in good condition overall. Not wet enough to leave tracks in most areas. Naviagation was straight forward with my Tillimook State Visitor map. Round trip roughly 27 miles. My altimeter said 4800' of elevation gain.

AREAS OF NOTE:
About 1 mile west of the Jones Creek area there is an active logging area immediate past the interesction with the dirt road. The trail was impassible for felled trees. I back tracked to the road and followed it West for about 1/8 of a mile. I bush wacked along an old logging road on the North side of the road, at the boundary of the logging site. After 100 yards I connected with the trail again.

The shoulders of this trail are soft in many areas. Watch you speed or go tumbling to a sudden epiphany of pain.

There are several short but tricky water crossings. Watch your step and lift your bike.

Conditions from Keenig Creek towards Footbridge

I was up on the trail this past Sunday (5/11/08) doing some pruning and brushing.  The trail is in good shape along the section between Keenig Creek and Footbridge.  I hiked and pruned/brushed about 1-2 miles.  It was evident that since my last posting the South Fork Prison work crew had been out to cut several downed trees and perform some re-tread work.  There are still a few sections that need some tread work and one large tree that still needs to be cut, but other than that the portion that I hiked looked good.
