New Trail Open In Scappoose Network!

Many of you know the familiar faces of Ron Strasser and John Joy. They have long ago become staples of our wonderful mountain biking (... and roadie/cyclocross/racing) family. They not only show up for races and rides, but consistently put in many hours for trail building and maintenance. A Trail Party just wouldn't be the same without them.

Ron and John Joy have been working dilligently on the Scappose trail system. This has brought us all hours of singletrack pleasure.

Ron had an exciting announcement yesterday:

"Pumpsters!

John Joy and I just opened the lower extension of Skeet Chute (AKA: Headhunter) this morning. It is another one mile long section of fun descending (tough climbing if going in reverse) called "Switchblade".

I started on this way back in Cyclocross season, but it is now open for riding. Ride smart, there are some soft shoulders. Where it bottoms out on the road, it would be best if folks took a right and followed road back up (staying right at the two intersections as roads off to left are landing roads that dead end) to the road right next to where the upper Skeet Chute popped out onto road.

This will make for a really great loop with a nice long descent (over two miles) and a nice just as long climb for those that enjoy good XC riding and want a good workout as well. Riding the road out as mentioned above will be most helpful as we go into the warm weather as it will keep a single track open on the road by keeping the grass knocked down.

John (Joy) and I are going to get together (as we are the retired folk with flex schedules) and build a single track climb back up to the road... but for now lets ride it in to keep it open.

I am pretty sure he (John Joy) is going to take the Friday night group on this new section. Check in with him on the Wednesday night ride. You can let him know that I posted this... I forgot to tell him I was going to let folks know.

I will be glad to show folks as well, but will be out of town (Bend- racing Chainbreaker) this weekend. Enjoy!

** Only thing I would add is asking if one comes upon a trail that is in process of being built, but has not been opened for use.... please stay off as riding it can cause alot of work to be lost.

Rock on! Ride on!
