Mount Hood Trail Conditions

Jim Thornton, Trails Coordinator of the Mount Hood National Forest, spoke at the PUMP April meeting. He said there were 200 plus inches of snow still in the high elevations, such as around High Prairie. The snow probably won’t melt off the 5000’ – 6000’ elevations until late June and early July. He asks that riders be aware of trail conditions and allow the trails to dry before riding late this summer. He also will be seeking volunteers to help with a trail relocation in Cooks Meadows, connecting the Surveyors Ridge loop to High Prairie, in late summer to early fall. He has received permission to reschedule the National Trails Day for Mount Hood from June 7 until later in the summer when the snow has melted. Thornton also recommended that the PUMP Wild Ride be rescheduled for later in the summer. For current trail conditions, see http://www.camba.info/
