Sunday 5/4 Ride

Wondering is anyone has any suggestions on a ride within an hour and a half of portland. Last weekend we did Syncline/Post Canyon, and while I could handle going back, I'd like to try something new, but the snow levels don't seem to be cooperating. Does anyone know what the Wilson River Trail looks like these days? I've heard there are some downed trees, but that was a number of weeks ago. I'm looking for a ride that's technically beginner/intermediate, 2-3 hours. Ideas? Thanks!

Edit: Oh, on second thought, anyone been to McDonald Forest/Corvallis lately?

Try Wilson River Trail

The ride report given at the PUMP meeting tonight mentioned that the trail is in good shape between Elk Creek Campground and Kings Mountain Trail Head.  Wayne N. was up there 2 weekends ago doing some maintenance, and perhaps others have been too.  Sounds like it is cleared out.  The ride report from this evening also mentioned that the trail was clear from Kings Mountain Trail Head heading west towards the Forestry Center.  But, I am not sure about the full section between these two points, nor am I sure of the condition of the trail between the Forestry Center and the Footbridge Trail Head.

Two weekends ago, I rode the section between Footbridge Trail Head and Koening Creek Campground.  There were several sections of trail that were washed out and many downed trees.  I would be surprised if this section has been cleared, it will be a considerable effort to repair this section.

Also related to the Tillamook... Roger (ODF) informed me at the SOLV cleanup that the section of trail between the Summit Trail Head and Gales Creek Campground has been relocated and is open - and sounds it has been improved in spots so that it does not follow the fall line.  Not sure on the status of Sikter Lars or the Historic Hiking Loop, but Gales Creek Trail is out of commission last I heard due to severe washouts and downed trees.

Awesome, thanks for the

Awesome, thanks for the report!

We ended up at Scappose last weekend (finally--it was my first time there if you can believe that) which was great. I think this will get put on my list to do soon. This weekend I probably will stick to my road bike, because the weekend after that is the short track and XC race Bear Springs Trap on mt Hood and I'll be up there all weekend. After that though, I'll post my Sunday rides!

Would love to do Sunday ride!

Hi Kristen,

New to area and attempting to get into the PDX mtn. bike scene. Can only ride on Sundays as mid-week rides are out. I would be very interested in finding out about groups going out on Sundays!

I am located in Beaverton and can meet up with a group somewhere.

 Thanks,

Marc A.
